Itinerary

Chinchero Town: Textiles and Nature

The driver will pick you up at 9:00 AM from your hotel in Cusco, accompanied by the guide who will lead the journey. The first stop will be Chinchero. This town, surrounded by the two most important lakes in Cusco—Piuray and Huaypo—is a significant textile hub. Here, we will visit one of the textile centers that still preserves the ancient techniques of the Incas. You’ll learn about the natural dyeing process, the materials they use, and how this artisanal method of producing all kinds of garments made from alpaca, sheep, and llama wool has been passed down through generations.

Maras Salt Mines

Next, we will return to the van to head to the salt mines located in the Maras community. These salt terraces date back thousands of years and remain a vital source of income for many local families who harvest and sell the salt, both in popular Cusco markets and in some of the world’s finest restaurants. We will explore how the mines were formed and their significance during the Inca Empire.

Moray Archaeological Site

Our next stop will be the Moray archaeological site, undoubtedly a must-see for its impressive size and the perfection of its circular terraces. What were these terraces used for? How could they have been built with such precision? You’ll need to listen closely to the theories shared by the Guide.

We’ll bid farewell to the breathtaking views of the Verónica, Pitusiray, and Sahuasiray snow-capped peaks and drop you off at your hotel in Ollantaytambo at approximately 2 PM.
