Choquequirao Trek
4 days / 3 nights

About the Tour

The Inca Trail to Choquequirao in Peru is part of an extensive Inca trail system spanning over 23,000 kilometers that integrated the Tahuantinsuyo Empire, which extended across much of what is now known as South America. The trek begins in the town of Cachora. It is a medium-to-high difficulty hike, recommended for those passionate about nature and culture. On the third day, you will arrive at the Choquequirao Archaeological Site, featuring impressive Inca architecture—a place that will undoubtedly remain in your memory forever.

Itinerary

Day 01 | Transfer Cusco – Capuliyuc / Hike to Playa Rosalina

We will pick you up in private transportation from your hotel/accommodation in Cusco city to head towards the town of Capuliyuc, passing through Cachora. Once we arrive at the viewpoint, we will get off the bus to enjoy the spectacular views, stretch our legs a bit, and prepare for the hike, which will last about 4 hours until our first rest/lunch point in Chiquisqa. Along the way, we will have the opportunity to see impressive snow-capped mountains such as Padriyoc, as well as native flora and fauna. After lunch, we will continue the hike downhill for another 2 hours until Playa Rosalina, at 1,800 meters above sea level, very close to the Apurímac River, where our camp will be set up. We will have dinner at night and go to bed early to get a good rest.

Day 02 | Playa Rosalina – Marampata – Choquequirao

We will wake up early to have a hearty breakfast to replenish our energy. Then we will begin the route with a 2-hour uphill hike to reach the town of Santa Rosa, where we will take a well-deserved rest. We will resume the hike for another 3 hours. During the walk, we will enjoy unbeatable views of the Apurímac Canyon, Choquequirao mountain, and other beautiful mountains surrounding this archaeological site. Once in Marampata, we will have lunch.

The last stretch of the hike will take us to Choquequirao. It is a calm route where, little by little, we will get to appreciate up close more and more details of the architecture of this impressive Inca legacy. The campsite is located outside the archaeological site.

Day 03 | Playa Rosalina – Marampata – Choquequirao

After enjoying breakfast prepared by our cook, we will begin the tour of the Choquequirao archaeological site, always led by our guide. This route will take approximately 2 hours. We will visit areas where you can see the llama artwork, the Ushnu Ceremonial platform, and the Religious Zone. Once the guide finishes the explanations, you will have free time to explore and continue discovering this beautiful lost city.

We will have lunch at Choquequirao, and then begin our descent to Pajchayoc. We will return to the Apurímac river canyon, to the area known as Chiquisca, where our camp will be set up to spend the last night surrounded by nature.

Day 04 | Chiquisca – Capuliyuc – Cachora / Transfer to Cusco

Today we will leave the camp very early to say goodbye to this magical route. After breakfast, we will hike uphill for approximately 4 hours until we reach Capuliyuc. There, we will enjoy our last lunch together with the rest of the travelers and the expedition team.

From this point, we will take transportation back to Cusco.
